The UAW Education Department is the largest in the labor movement, with a national department dedicated to assisting our members in developing new skills and knowledge, as well a an appreciation for our historic past. The Education Department presents programs and conferences at the UAW’s Walther and May Reuther Family Education Center as well as in each Region.
Here in Region 4, we provide annual Summer Schools where members and leaders increase their knowledge and skills. The first week is generally reserved for newly active members who would like to have a broader picture of their union and how they can participate in it. Programs such as Health & Safety, Union Involvement, Grievance Handling, Organizing and Political Action are offered, along with speakers who bring them up to date on issues of the day. The second week is designed for local union leaders to broaden and sharpen their skills through workshops and role playing. We can also bring programs into your local union as well.
We have various publications and videos through the UAW Education Department. With these materials, local unions can develop their own programs and classes, or ask for assistance from their regional education representative.
