M.E.R.T. & Disaster Relief Program

Member Emergency Response Team (MERT) & Disaster Relief Program.

What is MERT...Community Service in the regional vision of all committees working together to strengthen our union and assist in organizing.  Member Emergency Response Teams strengthen our union by showing members we care and are here to support them.  They also provide a positive community image as we assist both union and community in times of need.

Why do we need MERT...This is the next step in the regional vision.  We have completed organizing training throughout the region.  Our CAP council's have a strong political presence.  Now we will train the standing committees and develop Member Emergency Response Teams in each local union.

Who does MERT need...In order to succeed we need everyone's help.  Every local union president and area CAP chairman will need to assign individuals to lead this project.

Where is MERT...This is a regional project but will roll out one state at a time starting with Wisconsin.  Wisconsin has established a State Community Service Council, which will assist us in strengthening this program.

When will MERT be ready...The goal is  to have this program running throughout the region by December 31, 2009.  Training will be set up for Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota each quarter, not necessarily in that order.
